Hong Kong Kai Tak Mini Hockey Association by Olivia Lam
The Hong Kong Kai Tak Mini Hockey Association is a fantastic place to learn hockey while having fun. I began my journey there when I was just three years old. At that age, I found it challenging, but I worked hard to overcome those obstacles through consistent practice. I train three times a week on Monday, Friday, and Sunday with my teammates, paying close attention to the techniques and strategies taught by our coaches. Nowadays, I find hockey incredibly enjoyable, and I've made many friends along the way.
Do you know what mini hockey is? It's a modified version of field hockey designed for children under 14. Each player uses their own hockey stick to play the ball, and the game is a competition between two teams. The team that scores the most goals wins!
Mini hockey categorizes players into different age groups: 3-4 (U4), 5-6 (U6), 7-8 (U8), 9-10 (U10), 11-12 (U12), and 13-14 (U14). Currently, I’m participating in the U10 group and taking part in various hockey competitions each month. I enjoy the teamwork and the sense of achievement that comes from these games. Sometimes I win, and sometimes I lose, but I’ve learned that every loss is a valuable opportunity for growth and experience in future competitions.
I’m also thrilled that my two sisters have joined the association, participating in the U6 and U4 groups after my encouragement. I hope to introduce this fun and rewarding game to even more people!
