Emotions
by Caitlin Wong from 4E
Have you ever wondered what the invisible forces are that guide you to the path of every decision you make? They are not just a plain feeling but powerful indicators that have their own meaning. Those guiders are none other than our emotions. There are four equally important emotions. Today, let’s take a look at these fascinating feelings and find out what they are used for.
Happiness 😄
What it makes you feel:
Ah, happiness: probably the most common thing that you feel when you wake up every day. It also makes you feel a sense of warmth and satisfaction. It also makes you feel light-hearted, too!
How it affects your health:
Reading this, you might think: How are feelings and health related? Well, after reading this chapter, you will discover the twist behind these two things! Research has shown that people who experience more positive and joyful emotions have a higher antibody response to vaccines. This can help us protect ourselves from illnesses, such as the flu and other common diseases. Happiness enhances our health, like boosting our immune system, protecting our heart health and even more positive benefits! So, if you are reading this, make sure to make more happy memories with your friends or family!
Love ❤️
What it makes you feel:
When you are loved, you will feel lighter and more energetic and will often smile more. You will also feel protected and have a shoulder to lean on when somebody cares or loves you.
The flip side:
Love surrounds us with safety, joy and connection, yet it still has a flip side that reveals bits of vulnerability, conflict and pressure. That reminds us that bonds can bring not only comfort and warmth, but also different obstacles and challenges!
Anger 😡
What it makes you feel:
When you are angered by someone, you will feel a mix of feelings like frustration, irritation and other hints of negative emotions that you will feel.
How it affects your health:
When you feel angry, it will make your whole body feel stressed; it will also raise your heartbeat and blood pressure. When that happens, it will be harder for you to sleep or stay calm. If you stay angry often, it can hurt your heart, damage your immune system or, in some rare occasions, even kill you! So, if you are the type of person to get angry or frustrated, learning to cool down is a very important subject for you!
Fear 😨
What it makes you feel:
You might think that fear is only an emotion that reacts to some scary horror films or stories that your friends force you to watch, but it also has many surprising benefits that help us in our daily lives. Fear can sharpen our senses, fuel our adrenaline and even protect us from danger!
The flip side:
Fear can protect you from danger, but it also has some negative sides. Sometimes, it might paralyse your decision-making, creating lasting disturbing memories that you may not forget and even changing your behaviour that either strengthens your stamina or traps you in anxiety.
