World Famous Cities by Chan Ching Wun
Have you ever visited any well-known cities? Which ones have you been to? I have been to Tokyo, London, Paris, and Beijing. Now, I will talk about a few of them. They are all great places to travel.
London
London is a metropolis in Europe, serving as the capital and largest city of the UK. The currency used is the pound. London was the world's largest city from 1831 until 1925 and boasts the oldest underground railway system. When visiting London, you must see the British Museum, the London Eye, and the Palace of Westminster. The British Museum is free to visit, but it requires advanced booking. It houses over 8 million artifacts. The London Eye is a Ferris wheel that offers stunning views of the River Thames. At the Palace of Westminster, you might even catch a glimpse of the king of England if you're lucky. The largest airport in London is Heathrow Airport, which is the busiest in Europe and the fifth busiest in the world.
Tokyo
Tokyo is the capital of Japan and the world's largest city, with over 14 million residents. The city center features the iconic Tokyo Tower. The tallest building in Tokyo is the Tokyo Skytree, standing at 634 meters. It was built because many buildings in Tokyo exceeded 200 meters, making it difficult for Tokyo Tower (333 meters high) to transmit signals. The Skytree was completed in 2012. Shibuya Crossing, located next to Shibuya Station, is the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world, with around 3,000 people crossing it at a time. Tokyo Station, which opened in 1914, is the busiest station in Japan, with over 4,000 trains departing daily. In 1964, the Tokaido Shinkansen, Japan's first high-speed train system, began service between Tokyo Station and Shin-Osaka Station. Akihabara is a shopping hub in northern Tokyo, known for games, comics, and electronics, attracting many travelers.
Beijing
Beijing is the capital of China and has served as the capital for about 500 years, dating back to the Yun Dynasty. Over 22 million people live there, making it the most populous city in China. Beijing hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2022 Winter Olympics. The Forbidden City in the center of Beijing was home to many emperors during the Ming Dynasty. After a ten-minute walk from Qianmen subway station, you can reach Tiananmen Square, which is accessible via 16 subway lines. The city consists of 119 towns and 24 townships. The National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, hosted the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics. The tallest building in the city is China Zun, which stands at 527 meters.
