Sports Day 2024

by Hailey Tong (6C)

Pui Ching’s 135th Sports Day has come and gone. And this year was just as exciting as past years. Let me tell you what happened at this notable event.

When we arrived at the Kowloon Bay Sports Grounds, it was already crowded with students. Some students were warming up, some cheering for their team to win, and some chatting with their friends in the audience.

Soon enough, the opening ceremony started. First, everyone stood up to sing the school anthem. After that, the speaker invited the students who were participating in the boys 100-meter race to gather in preparation.

After some time, the boys 100-meter race kicked off. They ran as fast as a pack of cheetahs. At first, one of the boys was losing, which made the audience root for him more. This worked, as the boy eventually caught up and finished.

Not long after, the winners were announced. The students went up to the podium and got their medals, and lots of their fellow classmates dashed down to congratulate the winners.

That was when I interviewed a teacher called Mr Wong King Yu. I asked him what his feelings were about the race. I also asked him if he had Sports Day when he was a student. He answered: “My old school did have Sports day. I feel overjoyed that I can come to Kowloon Bay to see my students’ hard work paying off.”

Although this is the last year of us as P6 students and our last Sports Day, we are all happy to have experienced many throughout our time at Pui Ching Primary School. Now we look ahead to the secondary school Sports Day.
